Submitted by Angie: I also saw OG reading Midnight Mile in episode 3.
myself and a few other submitters have been trying to figure this one out. The title says Midnight Mile, but the author name doesn’t match up with anything we can find (so far I’ve made out that the author is potentially a Kimberly something? I’ve stared and paused at the scene way too many times now)
My guess so far is that this is a fake book, like 1 other title I spotted, but if anyone else is aware of a Midnight Mile title that would fit with what is on screen, please let me know!
The show doesn’t have stereotypical “nerds”—instead, many characters love books.
Holy crap, the author linked the real Piper’s Amazon wishlist LOL
They are apparently not a fan of my Rory Gilmore comparison though…which admittedly is lazy and Rory took booknerd to a whole new level - but I still stand by Piper’s nerd cred because of her Robert Frost rant.
Piper - The Chickening.
Every moment of this scene is perfect. Reading by a tree, with tea and snacks… even if it is in prison…
Bryman says, “Thomas directed each woman to visualize in their mind three emotive thoughts: Think of a peaceful place, think of a person who makes you laugh, and think of something that you want to forget. He apologized ahead of time for the last question but found it was incredibly effective in evoking a wide range of unfortunate memories.”
If the title sequences don’t win an Emmy next year, I will cut a bitch

The scene when Alex and Piper were having sex in the chapel.
"I’m coming, I’m coming…"
Show, don’t tell.
"Show, don’t tell, - Some might say that quote could be attributed to Mark Twain.
One could also ague that Mark Twain said a whole lot of memorable quotes and how would you know that he said this one too? or that’s just too common of a phrase to be tied to anyone Literary….etc.
But, I’m inclined to think the writers of the show are wicked enough to throw Twain into a threesome.
Hey, love this blog. I am formulating a drinking game around this.
haha! This is fantastic - whether it was a happy accident or something slyly done by the writers, I love this - and the drinking game. This could be good:
Book(s) appears on screen - drink
Character is seen with a book - drink
A book is explicitly referenced (or anything of that nature) - drink
Scene takes place in the library - drink twice
Piper goes on a book rant - chug the hooch
